[Beta] Word Edits

This guide walks you through using Word Edits in Legora, covering access, usage steps, current beta limitations, admin setup, FAQs, and troubleshooting

Updated this week

Overview

Word Edits lets you edit existing Word files directly in Legora using the Assistant or Workflows, without opening Microsoft Word. Attach .docx files as input and Legora returns updated .docx files as output. Ideal for high‑volume, one‑shot edits like mass template filling and straightforward repapering.

Who can use it

  • Status: Early Access Beta, for access please request via your account administrator.

How to use Word Edits

  1. Open a Project in Legora and launch the Assistant,

  2. Or open a Workflow you have created for this purpose.

  3. Attach one or more .docx files as input.

  4. Choose edit mode: tracked changes or apply edits directly.

  5. Provide clear instructions or use a prebuilt Workflow prompt, then run.

  6. Download or review the generated .docx files. Move or rename them as needed in your Project.

Product Functionality and Limitations [Beta]

  • Assistant cannot yet edit on top of a previously generated file; it generates from the original/base file. Planned improvements before GA.

  • Multi‑doc runs work best up to roughly ~15 documents per prompt today; limits will increase over time.

  • Generated documents are saved to the Project in a dated, user‑named folder. You can move or rename them.

  • For high volume edits, we recommend designing a Workflow built for your template or repapering task.

Current limitations

  • Stopping a run: If you stop the Assistant after edits have started, background processing may continue and new files can still be created.

  • Validate outputs: Review generated documents before sharing externally, especially where formatting is critical.

  • Tracked changes: Complex table edits, footnotes, and form fields may not round‑trip perfectly with tracked changes.

  • Preview delay: File previews may take several seconds to appear after generation.

  • Formatting: Complex table edits, footnotes, and form fields are improving.

  • UX: Preview and artifacting are being enhanced. Background jobs may finish even if you stop a run.

Security

No dedicated security white paper for Word Edits. If you need details for review, contact Legora Support.

FAQs

Can I run Word Edits on many files at once?

Yes. Today, runs are reliable up to roughly ~15 documents per prompt. Larger batches are improving.

Does Word Edits support tracked changes?

Yes. You can choose tracked changes or direct edits.

Where are my results saved?

New .docx files are saved to your Project in a dated, user‑named folder. You can move or rename them.

Can I iterate on a generated file?

Iteration currently creates a new file from the original/base document. Versioning and iterative flows are planned before GA.

Troubleshooting

  • Run appears to finish but I don’t see a preview yet

    • Previews can take several seconds after the file is created. Open the file from the results list once ready.

  • Assistant didn’t start a run (no taskbar/progress)

    • Refresh the page and retry. If it persists, contact Support with the Project link and timestamp.

  • Some fields in my template weren’t filled

    • Ensure the prompt or Workflow provides all required values. Consider a preprocessing step to extract data before the fill step.
